The ordeal unfolded when the bride's family, accompanied by other passengers, set out on a journey to purchase wedding supplies in Kano. As they traversed the highway, the group was ambushed by bandit terrorists, armed and ready to prey on unsuspecting victims. The armed assailants, wielding AK-47 rifles, targeted the bride-to-be's family and several other travellers, intending to abduct them and demand ransom.
