Ogun State Vows to Flush Out Militants and Poachers from Forest Reserves

Ogun State Government has issued a stern warning to militants and poachers occupying forest reserves within the state. The government had previously ordered 17 illegal communities in the Omo Forest Reserve to vacate the region by January 15, 2024. However, some occupants have remained, hindering officials from carrying out their duties.

Commissioner for Forestry, Engr Taiwo Oludotun, revealed that the ministry recently conducted demolitions in some of the illegal communities and farm settlements. He expressed concern that some occupants had turned to militant groups, posing a threat to the officials. Additionally, their activities, such as poaching, have been detrimental to the biodiversity and ecological health of the forest.

The government remains undeterred by attempts to discredit its efforts. It is committed to protecting the forest resources for future generations and will continue to pursue policies that ensure the preservation of the state's natural heritage.
