Amidst the ongoing governorship primary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State, four out of the sixteen aspirants have raised objections, calling for the cancellation of the exercise. The aggrieved aspirants, including Wale Akinterinwa, Olusola Oke, Olugbenga Edema, and Dayo Faduyile, have accused the seven-man committee overseeing the primary, led by Kogi Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, of fraudulent conduct.
In a press conference held in Akure, the aspirants, led by Olugbenga Edema, expressed distrust in the ability of Governor Ododo to conduct a fair and transparent primary. They alleged that the committee had failed to distribute materials for the primary in certain wards, raising concerns about the integrity of the process.
Wale Akinterinwa specifically called for the immediate replacement of Ododo, emphasizing that he would not accept the outcome of the primary if Ododo remained in charge. He urged the party leadership to appoint a neutral person to oversee a fresh primary, ensuring that the people of Ondo State can freely exercise their franchise.
Similarly, Olusola Oke highlighted the absence of materials in key senatorial districts and stressed the importance of adhering to the guidelines set by the national leadership of the party.
In response to the allegations, Ododo assured that the committee had taken note of the complaints and stated that materials had been dispatched to the affected areas. However, he affirmed that the committee would review the concerns raised by the aspirants.
The demands of the aggrieved aspirants underscore the tension surrounding the APC primary in Ondo State and raise questions about the credibility and fairness of the electoral process.
