"Delta Ambush Tragedy: Major Salisu Danjuma Shaffa's Heroic Sacrifice Leaves Pregnant Widow and Two Children Behind"

Major Salisu Danjuma Shaffa

Major Salisu Danjuma Shaffa, a recent deployment to Delta State, met a tragic fate when he, alongside other military officers and soldiers, fell victim to an ambush during a rescue mission. This mission, aimed at freeing a hostage in Okuama, resulted in the loss of several lives, including Shaffa's.

Shaffa, an alumnus of the University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID), hailed from Shaffa town in Hawul Local Government Area of Borno South. His sudden demise came barely three weeks into his new Area of Responsibility (AR). Reports indicate that he was part of the 181 Amphibious Battalion of the military Joint Task Force, JTF, Bomadi Division.

The ambush claimed the lives of Shaffa, the Commanding Officer, Lt. Col Ali, another Major, a Captain, and twelve others. The mission aimed to release Anthony Aboh, a hostage held by Okuama youths due to a lingering land dispute.

Tragically, Shaffa's family was already grappling with loss, as his father, Danjuma Shaffa, had also passed away some years ago as a retired Major of the Nigerian Army in Borno State.

Surviving Shaffa are his pregnant wife and two small children, further deepening the sorrow of his family's loss. Alhaji Idris Mamman Durkwa, a family friend, highlighted the imminent arrival of a new member to the family, underscoring the challenges the widow and her children now face.

In the aftermath of the tragedy, heartfelt condolences poured in from friends, family, and colleagues. Social media posts and statements from public figures reflected the deep sense of loss and the impact of Shaffa's sacrifice on those who knew him.

Politicians and community leaders, including Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume and Dr. Midala Usman Balami, condemned the incident and called for justice for the fallen soldiers. They praised Shaffa's dedication to service and expressed solidarity with his family and constituents.

As the nation mourns the loss of Major Salisu Danjuma Shaffa and his comrades, there are fervent calls for a thorough investigation to bring the perpetrators to justice and prevent such tragedies in the future.
