The Lagos State Ministry of Environment and Water Resources has commenced the removal of shanties and illegal business activities under the Ijora bridge. This is the second time the state government has taken such action, following a similar exercise in February.
According to the ministry's commissioner, Tokunbo Wahab, a 23-hour notice was served to illegal occupants squatting under the bridge to vacate the premises. The government has announced plans to convert the under-bridge to a creative space.
The removal of the shanties and illegal business activities is part of the state government's efforts to clean up the environment and restore order in the area. The exercise is expected to continue until the area is completely cleared of all illegal structures and activities.
