Breaking: "Saudi Arabia Sets Eid Date Amid Crescent Moon Controversy: Wednesday Declared for Eid el-Fitr Celebrations"

Saudi Arabia has officially announced that Wednesday, April 10, will mark the celebration of Eid el-Fitr, following the non-sighting of the crescent moon on Monday evening. This declaration comes after the Kingdom confirmed that the holy month of Ramadan will span 30 days this year.

In a statement released by Haramain, the kingdom’s prominent news source, via its official handle, it was stated: “The crescent moon was NOT sighted in Saudi Arabia. Therefore, Eid el-Fitr will be celebrated on Wednesday, 10th April 2024. May Allāh allow us to utilize the remaining moments of this blessed month to engage in that which pleases Him, may He accept our siyām, qiyām & a’māl & may He allow us to witness many more Ramadāns in good health. Āmīn.”

However, in Nigeria, Muslims are advised to await the announcement from the Sultan of Sokoto and President General of the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, Sa’ad Abubakar, later in the day.

The Sultan had earlier urged Muslims across the nation to be on the lookout for the new moon, marking the beginning of Shawwal 1445 AH. In a statement issued by the Chairman of the Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs of the Sultanate Council in Sokoto, Sambo Wali, individuals who spot the new moon are urged to promptly inform the relevant authorities.

“Muslims are therefore requested to start looking for the new moon of Shawwal 1445AH on Monday and report its sighting to the nearest district or village head for onward communication to His Eminence, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, the Sultan of Sokoto,” the statement reads.

As anticipation builds for the official announcement in Nigeria, the global Muslim community eagerly awaits the end of Ramadan and the joyous occasion of Eid el-Fitr.
