Gunmen have abducted over 20 Nigerian medical and dental students, along with a House Officer, in Benue State. The students were on their way to attend the Federation of Catholic Medical and Dental Students (FECAMDS) annual convention in Enugu when the unfortunate incident occurred.
The kidnapped students were from the University of Maiduguri and the University of Jos and were traveling together when they were ambushed by the armed assailants. The abduction reportedly took place in the Otukpo area of Benue State around 5:30 p.m.
The spokesperson for the Benue State Police Command, SP Catherine Anene, confirmed the incident and stated that an investigation had already been launched to locate and rescue the abducted students. “Yes, the report of the kidnapping is true. The report was received around 5:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., and an investigation is ongoing,” Anene said.
Further details are awaited as the police and other security agencies work on the case. The situation has raised concerns over the safety of students and travelers in the region.
