Channels TV reporter kidnapped at gunpoint, ransom demanded

In a harrowing turn of events, Joshua Rogers, a dedicated journalist working for Channels Television in Rivers State, has become the latest victim of kidnapping in the region. The abduction took place at Rogers' residence in Rumuosi, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, under cover of darkness around 9 pm on Thursday.

Rogers, who serves as the Government House correspondent for Channels Television, had just returned home after wrapping up his coverage of an event in Ndoni, Ogba-Egbema-Ndoni LGA earlier that day. The event, graced by Governor Siminalayi Fubara, saw the commissioning of a primary healthcare center generously donated to the state by former Rivers State Governor, Peter Odili.

Tragically, Rogers' evening took a terrifying turn when he was ambushed by armed assailants at his doorstep. The attackers, reportedly lying in wait, confronted Rogers at gunpoint before forcibly taking him away in his own vehicle. The chilling ordeal unfolded swiftly, leaving Rogers' family and colleagues in a state of shock and disbelief.

In a distressing twist, the kidnappers wasted no time in making their demands known, contacting Rogers' wife and demanding a staggering ransom of N30 million for his safe release. The suddenness and brutality of the abduction have cast a dark shadow over the journalistic community in Rivers State, raising urgent concerns about the safety and security of media professionals operating in the area.

Despite efforts to obtain official comment on the incident, including attempts to reach the Police Public Relations Officer, Grace Iringe-Koko, for a statement, no response has been forthcoming. As the search for Joshua Rogers intensifies and the community reels from this brazen act of violence, the need for swift action to ensure his safe return has never been more pressing.
