Nigerian actress and entrepreneur, Lizzy Anjorin, has finally broken her silence over allegations that she stole gold worth ₦91,000 at the popular Eko Idumota market in Lagos in February 2024. In an exclusive interview with Timi Agbaje, the actress vehemently denied the accusations, branding them as absurd and completely unfounded.
Addressing the allegations head-on, Lizzy Anjorin expressed her frustration and disbelief, stating that the idea of her stealing such a minuscule amount of gold was not only ridiculous but also highly implausible. She emphasized that her stature and reputation as a businesswoman make it impossible for her to stoop so low.
“Let’s first establish the fact that we’re talking about ₦91,000 worth of gold, at a time when a gram of gold was ₦150,000. A gram of gold is less than a grain of rice, so how can anyone accuse me of going into the market to steal something as small as that?” she said during the interview.
Anjorin, who is a certified jewelry seller and fabric merchant, highlighted her extensive business credentials, pointing out that such an accusation contradicts her established career. She made it clear that she has no need to engage in theft, particularly in a market like Eko Idumota, where she frequently conducts her legitimate business.
“I’m a certified jewelry seller. I sell gold and diamonds. I’m also a certified fabric merchant, so how can I stoop so low to go to Eko Idumota to steal a gram of gold? Something that is less than a grain of rice? That is ridiculous. I am not a thief; I will never be a thief. I am too straightforward and too disciplined to become a thief,” Anjorin added, passionately defending her integrity.
The allegation first surfaced in February 2024, when a video went viral showing Anjorin in a shop at Eko Idumota, where she was accused of shoplifting. The actress has since claimed that the incident was a setup orchestrated by someone she referred to as “Shekpeteri.” According to Anjorin, this individual had personal motives to tarnish her image and create a scandal that would go viral on social media.
Though the specifics of the relationship between Anjorin and "Shekpeteri" remain unclear, the actress insists that she has always conducted herself with discipline and integrity. She firmly believes that the accusations were fabricated in an attempt to discredit her, both as a public figure and as a successful entrepreneur.
