Omoyele Sowore Announces Continuation of #EndBadGovernance Protests on Monday

Omoyele Sowore, the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) in the 2023 election, has declared that the #EndBadGovernance protests will persist on Monday. The demonstrations, which began on August 1, are a response to severe economic hardship and skyrocketing inflation affecting the country.

Nigerians have taken to the streets to voice their dissatisfaction, leading to confrontations in some northern states. Security forces have deployed tear gas to disperse protestors in major cities such as Lagos, Abuja, Kano, and Kaduna.

In a post on X, Sowore urged demonstrators to gather at Ojota before marching to the Lagos State Secretariat in Alausa. He outlined the planned routes for the protests, emphasizing the commitment to continue the fight for better governance.

"Please be aware that the #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria action will resume fully tomorrow across Nigeria and in several parts of Lagos - Lekki Toll Gate, Alausa Secretariat, former Lagos Toll Gate, Ketu, LASU Gate, Abule Egba, FESTAC Town, and several other centers," Sowore stated. "However, all groups are advised to march towards Ojota before processions to the Lagos State Secretariat, Alausa."

President Bola Tinubu, in response to the ongoing protests, addressed the nation on Sunday. In his speech, he called on protesters to halt their demonstrations, assuring them that his administration's efforts to tackle the economic challenges would soon yield tangible results for all Nigerians to see and feel.

The president’s address follows mounting pressure from various quarters, including opposition leaders and the general populace, urging him to speak directly to the nation and provide solutions to the economic woes plaguing the country.

Despite the president's appeal, the situation remains tense, with reports of violent clashes between protesters and security forces. The demonstrations have highlighted the deep frustrations of Nigerians over the rising cost of living and the perceived lack of effective governance.

As the #EndBadGovernance protests continue to gain momentum, the eyes of the nation and the world remain on Nigeria. The coming days will be crucial in determining whether the government's assurances will be sufficient to quell the unrest or if the demonstrations will escalate further.
