"F.G. Extends Eid-el-Fitr Celebrations with Additional Public Holiday on Thursday"

In a recent development, the Federal Government has sanctioned Thursday as an additional public holiday to commemorate this year's Eid-el-Fitr celebrations. This decision comes as a response to the non-sighting of the crescent moon on Monday, prompting an extension of the holidays initially slated for Tuesday and Wednesday.

Dr. Aishetu Gogo Ndayako, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, conveyed this decision in a statement released on Tuesday. The statement also highlighted the Honourable Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji Ojo's acknowledgment of the Muslim Ummah's successful completion of a month of spiritual renewal. Furthermore, it reiterated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's unwavering commitment to ensuring a safe and prosperous Nigeria for all citizens.

It's noteworthy that earlier announcements had designated Tuesday and Wednesday for Eid-el-Fitr celebrations. However, with the absence of the crescent moon sighting, the government opted to extend the holiday to include Thursday.

JIMBA MEDIA recalls that both Saudi Arabia and the Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar, had previously declared Wednesday, April 10, as Eid-el-Fitr, aligning with the lunar observations.

The extension of the holiday to Thursday provides an opportunity for continued festivities and observance of this significant religious occasion across the nation.
