KANO LOOTING: Governor Yusuf Imposes 24-Hour Curfew Following Vandalism

In response to the massive looting and vandalism of public buildings in Kano, Governor Abba Yusuf has declared a 24-hour curfew, effective immediately. The decision was announced on Thursday after the protests in the state took a violent turn, resulting in significant damage to public property.

Governor Yusuf expressed his deep dismay at the actions of individuals who hijacked the peaceful protests, leading to the destruction of public assets. In his address to Kano residents, he stated:

"I am deeply dismayed by the actions of some individuals who have hijacked the ongoing protests in Kano state, resulting in the vandalism of public property. While I acknowledge the right of citizens to express their grievances, I strongly condemn the destructive behavior of these disgruntled elements."

To safeguard lives and property, Governor Yusuf has implemented a 24-hour curfew across Kano state. He has instructed security agencies to take decisive action against anyone found causing trouble or engaging in violent activities.

"To safeguard lives and property, I have decided to impose a 24-hour curfew across the state, effective immediately. I have also directed security agencies to deal decisively with any person or group found fomenting trouble or engaging in violent activities. This administration will not tolerate any actions that threaten the peace and stability of our great state," the governor emphasized.

Despite the strict measures, Governor Yusuf urged all law-abiding citizens to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies as they work to restore order and maintain the rule of law throughout the state. He reassured the public that the administration is committed to ensuring the peace and stability of Kano.

The imposition of the curfew comes in the wake of the ongoing nationwide #EndBadGovernance protests, which have seen varying levels of intensity and violence across different states. In Kano, the protests turned violent with reports of looting and vandalism, prompting the governor's swift response to prevent further escalation and protect public and private properties.

Governor Abba Yusuf's decision to impose a 24-hour curfew in Kano is a decisive measure aimed at curbing the violence and restoring order in the state. The administration's firm stance against lawlessness and its appeal for calm reflect the urgent need to address the underlying issues driving the protests while ensuring the safety and security of all residents.
