Former Minister of power Collapses Outside Courtroom over Money Laundering Case

Engr. Saleh Mamman, former Minister of Power, stirred a dramatic scene at the Federal High Court, Abuja, When he collapsed outside the courtroom due to ill health. The incident occurred just before his plea was scheduled to be heard, as reported by NAN.

Mamman's legal representative, Femi Ate, SAN, informed Justice James Omotosho that his client collapsed upon arrival at the court premises and required immediate medical attention from the Federal High Court's medical personnel.

Upon his recovery, Mamman was promptly served with the charge against him, relating to allegations of money laundering amounting to N33 billion, filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Despite the health setback, Mamman eventually entered the courtroom, visibly affected by the ordeal, with part of his attire soaked. Justice Omotosho inquired about Mamman's condition, prompting the former minister to explain that he had experienced a sudden drop in blood pressure due to medication taken on an empty stomach.

The EFCC's lawyer, Adeyinka Olumide-Fusika, SAN, acknowledged the incident and discussions with Mamman's counsel regarding his health. He also mentioned filing an amended charge earlier in the day due to a clerical error in Mamman's name.

The court, faced with Mamman's health condition and procedural issues, considered the option of postponing the arraignment. Ate requested an adjournment until Monday to allow Mamman to recover fully, but due to the court's schedule, Justice Omotosho deferred the arraignment to September, citing workload constraints.

However, after Mamman expressed readiness to proceed, the judge decided to proceed with the arraignment later that day, highlighting the seriousness of the charges and the need for a fair trial.

Saleh Mamman, who served in President Buhari's administration from 2019 to 2021, was implicated in alleged money laundering activities
