UNIOSUN Teaching Hospital, situated in Osogbo, Osun State, has raised an alarm regarding the congestion of its mortuary due to the presence of unclaimed bodies. According to a statement issued by the hospital management, the mortuary has become overcrowded with bodies that have not been claimed by relatives. To address this issue, the hospital has issued a notice to relatives of individuals who had bodies in the mortuary between January 2019 and June 2023. These relatives have been given a 14-day window to come forward and retrieve the bodies of their loved ones.
Failure to claim the bodies within the specified time frame will prompt the hospital to resort to mass burial as a measure to decongest the mortuary. The hospital management emphasized the urgency of the situation, urging relatives to act promptly to avoid the unfortunate scenario of mass burial. The announcement serves as a call to action for affected individuals and their families to ensure timely retrieval of the bodies from the hospital's mortuary.
