Breaking News: Nigerian Government Approves Substantial Salary Increase for Civil Servants


In a significant development, the Nigerian Federal Government has given the green light to a salary increase for civil servants across various sectors. This salary increment, ranging from 25% to 35%, applies to the remaining six consolidated salary structures in the country.


The affected consolidated salary structures include:

1. Consolidated Public Service Salary Structure (CONPSS)

2. Consolidated Research and Allied Institutions Salary Structure (CONRAISS)

3. Consolidated Police Salary Structure (CONPOSS)

4. Consolidated Paramilitary Salary Structure (CONPASS)

5. Consolidated Intelligence Community Salary Structure (CONICCS)

6. Consolidated Armed Forces Salary Structure (CONAFSS)


Additionally, the salary increase extends to polytechnics and colleges of education, impacting the Consolidated Polytechnics and Colleges of Education Academic Staff Salary Structure (CONPCASS) and Consolidated Tertiary Educational Institutions Salary Structure (CONTEDISS).


The health sector is not left out, as the Consolidated Medical Salary Structure (CONMESS) and Consolidated Health Sector Salary Structure (CONHESS) also receive a boost.


According to Emmanuel Njoku, the Head of Press at the National Salaries, Incomes, and Wages Commission (NSIWC), the salary increases will be effective from January 1, 2024.


Furthermore, the Federal Government has approved a pension increase ranging from 20% to 28% for pensioners on the Defined Benefits Scheme associated with the aforementioned six consolidated salary structures. This pension increment also takes effect from January 1, 2024.


This move by the government is aimed at improving the welfare and livelihoods of civil servants and pensioners, recognizing their contributions to national development.
