Plateau State University Suspends Academic Activities Following Deadly Attack

In response to a tragic incident involving the killing of a 200-level Computer Science student during a night attack near the university's vicinity, the Plateau State University, Bokkos, has announced the suspension of all academic activities for a period of 10 days.

The Registrar of the institution, Yakubu Ayuba, conveyed the decision in a statement issued on Saturday, citing the psychological impact of the unfortunate event on both students and staff. The closure aims to mitigate risks to the university community and allow for an improvement in the security situation.

The suspension, effective from April 19, 2024, includes the temporary halt of ongoing first-semester examinations, which will resume on Thursday, May 2, 2024. Additionally, the university management has arranged buses to transport stranded students to Barkin Ladi during the closure period.

The decision comes in the wake of a recent attack on two communities, Mangu and Bokkos, where 15 individuals were reportedly killed by gunmen. The university's response underscores the commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of its students and staff in light of security challenges in the region.

As the university community grapples with the aftermath of the tragic incident, stakeholders are urged to remain vigilant and support efforts to enhance security measures, fostering a conducive environment for learning and academic pursuits.
