Port Harcourt Refinery to Restart Operations by Year-End - Senate Committee

The Senate Ad-Hoc Committee investigating the Turnaround Maintenance of Nigeria's Refineries has expressed optimism that the Port Harcourt Refinery will resume operations before the end of December.

During a courtesy visit to the Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, the Committee highlighted the significant progress made in refurbishing the refinery. Governor Fubara affirmed his administration's commitment to supporting federal initiatives aimed at improving the lives of Nigerians, particularly through infrastructure development.

The ongoing construction of the Woji-Aleto-Alesa-Refinery Road, nearing completion at 70%, is intended to streamline access to the Port Harcourt Refinery and alleviate congestion on the East-West Road. Governor Fubara emphasized the importance of governance in enhancing citizens' welfare and expressed gratitude for the Senate Committee's efforts in facilitating positive change.

He underscored the potential benefits of the refinery's revitalization, including reduced importation of petroleum products, economic growth, increased revenue generation, and improved infrastructure development in Rivers State.

Moreover, Governor Fubara urged respectful engagement in governance processes and emphasized the importance of prioritizing the people's interests above political considerations. He emphasized the need for collaboration among stakeholders to achieve shared goals and ensure the well-being of all citizens.

In response, Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, Chairman of the Senate Committee, reaffirmed the Committee's commitment to ensuring the effective operation of Nigeria's refineries. He highlighted the significance of reviving the Port Harcourt Refinery in aligning with President Bola Tinubu's Renewed Hope Agenda and reducing the nation's dependence on petroleum imports.

Senator Ubah reiterated the Committee's mandate to investigate the refineries' turnaround maintenance and ensure compliance with contractual obligations. The Committee's visit to Port Harcourt aimed to assess the refinery's readiness for recommencing operations and contribute to Nigeria's energy self-sufficiency.
