'Makinde Has Disappointed the Whole World,' Says Party Spokesperson as APC Decries Local Government Election in Oyo

Gov. Seyi Makinde

In a fervent critique, the Oyo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has unleashed scathing remarks against Governor Seyi Makinde and the Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC), asserting that they have let down the residents of the state in the ongoing local government elections.

The allegations were articulated through a statement issued by the party's Publicity Secretary, Wasiu Olawale Sadare, and provided to JIMBA MEDIA.

Today, OYSIEC conducted local government elections across all 33 local government areas of the state. Despite Governor Seyi Makinde's prior declaration of the election's peaceful conduct, the APC has raised concerns regarding several irregularities and challenges encountered during the process.

Wasiu Olawale Sadare, in his capacity as the APC's Publicity Secretary, highlighted various issues plaguing the election process. These include reported cases of election officials' non-availability, disenfranchisement of eligible voters, shortages of voting materials, as well as incidents of violence and threats to life in certain areas of the state.

The APC categorically stated that such occurrences signify a failure on the part of both Governor Seyi Makinde and OYSIEC, ultimately resulting in disappointment for the citizens of Oyo State.

Sadare went further to denounce the ongoing local government council election as nothing short of a sham. He warned of the dire consequences of allowing such flawed electoral processes to persist, emphasizing the potential for bringing untold disrepute to the state's democratic system.

Expressing deep disappointment in the unfolding events, Sadare accused OYSIEC of failing to adequately mobilize officials to attend to prospective voters in crucial polling units. Moreover, he alleged that the commission released insufficient voting materials to most polling units, contributing to widespread frustration among voters.

The statement pointed out egregious incidents in specific local government councils of Oke-Ogun, where official result sheets (Form EC8A) were reportedly withheld by OYSIEC's Electoral Officers. Additionally, political thugs were said to have been unleashed on opposition members who dared to raise questions in areas like Kajola, Olorunsogo, Itesiwaju, and others. The violence escalated to the extent that the chairman of the APC in Ibarapa East, Mr. Segun Ojediran, was violently attacked by PDP thugs in Eruwa, leading to his hospitalization.

Highlighting the magnitude of the disenfranchisement, Sadare emphasized that OYSIEC failed to accommodate more than 80% of eligible voters in the state, rendering the election results questionable and illegitimate. The APC adamantly called for the total cancellation of the election, citing irregularities and the alleged manipulation of the electoral process.

In conclusion, the APC's statement underscores the urgency of addressing the observed anomalies and ensuring a fair and transparent electoral process that upholds the democratic principles enshrined in Nigeria's governance.
