Bobrisky: Nigerian Correctional Service Debunks Notion of VIP Treatment for Bobrisky, Asserts Equal Confinement Conditions

In a recent development, the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) has taken steps to address the ongoing speculation surrounding the confinement conditions of Idris Okuneye, widely known as Bobrisky, within its facility. Bobrisky, currently serving a six-month prison sentence for the abuse of the Nigerian currency, has been the subject of controversy amid allegations of receiving VIP treatment in detention.

The issue arose following reports from a new platform, distinct from JIMBA MEDIA, which suggested that Bobrisky was residing in a newly constructed VIP apartment within the Kirikiri correctional center. However, the NCoS swiftly moved to clarify these claims, asserting that they were false and misleading.

Rotimi Oladokun, spokesperson for the NCoS, released a statement to counter the rumors, emphasizing that Bobrisky shares the same cell with other convicted inmates and does not enjoy any special amenities. Oladokun dispelled the notion of en-suite or 'one-bedroom flat' style cells within the Custodial Centre, explaining that the infrastructure is designed as shared buildings to accommodate multiple inmates.

The statement issued by Oladokun read, "The convicted inmate, Okuneye Idris Olanrewaju aka Bobrisky, is currently serving a 6-month jail term for abuse and mutilation of the Naira note within the custody of the Custodial Centre in the State." It further outlined Bobrisky's entitlement to reformative and rehabilitative programs, such as educational and vocational training, provided to all inmates.

Moreover, Oladokun clarified that Bobrisky, like any other inmate, adheres to the rules and regulations of the correctional center, particularly regarding dress code. Contrary to claims of special treatment, Bobrisky wears male-designated correctional clothing, consistent with the guidelines for convicted inmates.

The statement concluded by urging the public to disregard the misleading publication and reaffirming the NCoS's commitment to treating all inmates equally without favoritism. Additionally, it highlighted that Bobrisky, being remanded in a male Custodial Centre, underwent the standard admission procedures, which revealed no realignment of gender or genital organs.

Bobrisky's legal entanglement began when he was arrested and detained by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on April 3, 2024. The arrest followed a video report of Bobrisky purportedly spraying new Naira notes at a movie premiere held in Lagos. Subsequently, Bobrisky pleaded guilty to charges of naira abuse in a Federal High Court sitting in Lagos on April 5, 2024, leading to his conviction and sentencing. Despite his plea for pardon and commitment to educating his fans about the laws governing naira abuse, Bobrisky remains subject to the judicial process and the regulations of the correctional facility.
