Fire Engulfs Building with 40 Rooms in Kwara State, Nigeria.

 

In the early hours of Friday, a devastating fire broke out in Ilorin, the capital of Kwara State, Nigeria, engulfing a building containing 40 rooms. The blaze erupted at 02:40 a.m. at No E143, Ile Muse, off Emir’s road, within the Ilorin metropolis. Firefighters from the state fire service swiftly responded to the emergency, confronting the daunting challenge posed by the rapidly spreading flames. Despite the intensity of the inferno, the firefighters demonstrated exceptional training, skill, and unwavering dedication in their efforts to contain the blaze. After a grueling battle lasting approximately an hour, the firefighters successfully brought the fire under control at 03:42 hours, preventing further devastation and loss of life. However, the fire had already consumed nine rooms within the compound, leaving behind a trail of destruction. According to Hassan Adekunle, the spokesman for the state fire service in Ilorin, preliminary investigations revealed that the fire was ignited by a careless mistake. A resident had failed to properly extinguish a charcoal fire used for cooking dinner the previous night, inadvertently triggering the disaster. Expressing his sentiments on the tragic incident, Prince Falade John Olumuyiwa, the Director of the state fire service, emphasized the importance of fire safety and awareness. He lamented the avoidable nature of the tragedy, urging members of the community to remain vigilant and proactive in ensuring fire prevention measures are diligently followed. Director Olumuyiwa commended the firefighters for their courageous and selfless response to the crisis, describing their actions as a beacon of hope in the darkness. He emphasized the significance of their heroism as an example of unwavering dedication and service to humanity.
