Human rights activist and presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, has alleged that the Department of State Services (DSS) has written to X (formerly Twitter) demanding that his account be deactivated within 24 hours.
In a statement posted on his Facebook page on Sunday, Sowore described the move as an attempt by the Tinubu administration to silence dissenting voices critical of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and state governors.
According to him, this is not the first time government agencies have targeted him. He recounted past experiences including placement on no-entry lists at airports, illegal arrests, seizure of his passport, armed attacks, and what he termed as “fake charges of terrorism financing.”
“The drowning Tinubu regime exports national disgrace to Twitter,” Sowore wrote, insisting that the government is now extending its clampdown beyond Nigeria’s borders.
He likened the move to similar actions under the Muhammadu Buhari administration, stressing that such tactics would ultimately “fall flat.”
Sowore questioned whether Nigerians would continue to be “held hostage by a tiny, wicked band of rogues,” while reaffirming his commitment to activism.
“As for me, there is no going back. With or without Twitter, with or without Facebook, in or out of jail, the struggle continues,” he declared.
As of the time of filing this report, neither the DSS nor the Presidency had issued an official response to Sowore’s claims.
