Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) has condemned the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for conducting Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) in Warri Federal Constituency without implementing a Supreme Court-ordered delineation of wards and polling units.
In a statement signed by its coordinator, Emmanuel Onwubiko, the group described INEC’s action as unconstitutional, illegal, and contemptuous of the apex court’s December 2022 judgment, which nullified existing structures and directed a fresh delineation in Warri South, Warri South-West, and Warri North.
HURIWA alleged that the commission’s failure to publish its draft delineation report amounts to a plot to disenfranchise the indigenous Ijaw and Urhobo communities while entrenching electoral fraud.
The association called on INEC to release and implement the delineation report immediately, warning that continued defiance undermines democracy and risks fresh tensions in the Niger Delta. It also urged President Bola Tinubu, the National Assembly, and the judiciary to compel compliance.
HURIWA further appealed to civil society, religious leaders, and the international community to intervene, insisting that obedience to court orders is the foundation of democracy and justice.
