Hundreds of angry residents stormed the streets of Onosa in Lagos State’s Ibeju-Lekki area on Friday to protest the police killing of an unarmed man.

Jimba Media gathered that the incident which occurred on Thursday night, also left two others critically injured and receiving treatment at a hospital.

By Friday morning, news of the shooting had sparked widespread outrage. Demonstrators, mostly youths, blocked major roads with tyres, halting vehicular movement across the community.

A video obtained by Jimba Media showed a large crowd marching through Onosa, while police officers were deployed to maintain order. In another clip, the victim’s body was seen inside a vehicle as protesters chanted against police brutality.

“The protest was against the police in Ibeju-Lekki after the killing of an unarmed citizen. It happened at Onosa,” one resident confirmed.

“Two people are in the hospital now,” another eyewitness added.

The development comes amid recurring concerns over police violence in Nigeria.

In 2020, the #EndSARS movement mobilised nationwide protests demanding an end to extrajudicial killings, torture, and extortion by the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS). Though the government announced the disbandment of the unit on October 11, 2020, rights groups say police brutality has persisted.

Amnesty International and other watchdogs have consistently documented unlawful arrests, excessive use of force, and attacks on peaceful demonstrators.

Despite repeated promises of reform, the Nigerian police have struggled to restore public confidence.
