Real Sociedad Target Nigerian Midfielder Christantus Uche in Summer Transfer Move

Real Sociedad are preparing a renewed approach to sign Nigerian midfielder Christantus Uche following his impressive debut season with Getafe in La Liga.

The 22-year-old has become one of the breakout stars of the 2024/25 campaign, featuring in 33 league matches and contributing four goals and six assists, including a crucial goal against Mallorca that helped secure Getafe’s top-flight status.

Uche’s performances have drawn sustained interest from Real Sociedad. Sporting Director Roberto Olabe—who previously attempted to sign the player during both the summer and winter transfer windows—has received approval from club president Jokin Aperribay to launch a fresh bid this summer.

Despite Sociedad’s interest, Getafe remain reluctant to sell. Uche is under contract until 2028 and has a €25 million release clause, which club president Ángel Torres is reportedly unwilling to negotiate. With Uche's market value rising, Getafe view him as a cornerstone for the future.

Olabe is said to be exploring various options, including structured payment deals or potential player swaps, though reaching an agreement could prove difficult.

Uche joined Getafe from Ceuta in July 2024 after a strong campaign in Spain’s third tier. He made a memorable La Liga debut with a goal against Athletic Club on August 15, 2024, at age 21. Over the course of the season, he started 30 matches and came off the bench in three others, with his latest appearance including an assist in a 2–1 loss to Celta Vigo on May 24.

The midfielder is also poised to make his international debut for Nigeria in the upcoming Unity Cup clash against Ghana, marking another milestone in his rapidly ascending career.
