Brigadier General Usman Lawal, the Brigade Commander, briefed journalists following the operation, highlighting that the mission was executed based on actionable intelligence received by his officers. The terrorists had established their camp strategically along the Njaba River, spanning three council areas of Imo State: Njaba, Oru East, and Mbaitoli. Their criminal activities included kidnapping for ransom, robbery of kidnapping victims' belongings, burning their vehicles, and tragically, the murder of victims, many of whom were buried in makeshift graves.
Additionally, the terrorists were involved in the vandalism of vehicles owned by their victims, with the stolen parts often sold off before the vehicles were destroyed beyond recognition.
Brigadier General Lawal emphasized the importance of community collaboration in providing security agencies with vital information to track down and eliminate terrorists and other criminal elements. He expressed the military's commitment to clearing criminal hideouts to restore peace and enable residents to return to their communities and resume normalcy.
Following the successful operation, the bodies of the victims were exhumed for forensic examination, aiming to identify them and facilitate their proper burial arrangements.
