Nigerians across the 36 states have taken to the streets in a wave of protests, decrying the country's deteriorating economic situation and blaming President Bola Tinubu for the removal of petrol subsidies. The move, which came into effect on August 1, has left the masses reeling from skyrocketing fuel prices and subsequent increases in the cost of living.
The protests, tagged #EndBadGovernance, have seen citizens from all walks of life converge on major cities, demanding better governance and economic relief. The demonstrations, largely peaceful, have been marked by chants and placards criticizing the government's policies.
According to protesters, the subsidy removal has exacerbated the country's economic woes, leaving many struggling to make ends meet. "We can't afford food, transportation, or basic necessities anymore," lamented one protester. "The government seems oblivious to our suffering."
The protests are set to resume on Monday, as announced by activist Omoyele Sowore, who has been at the forefront of the #EndBadGovernance movement.
As the situation continues to unfold, Nigerians await a response from the government, hoping for a reversal of the subsidy removal and tangible solutions to the country's economic crisis.
