Detained Journalist During #EndBadGovernance Protest regain freedom



Ayoola Babalola, a journalist arrested during the nationwide #EndBadGovernance protests, has been released from police custody. He was detained by the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command at Wuye Police Station.

Babalola was released around 3 pm on Sunday after spending over 24 hours in detention.
- **Statement from Babalola:** "Yes, I have been released. I was released around 3 pm today (Sunday). The detention lasted for over 24 hours, but I’m home now,” Babalola told SaharaReporters. He expressed gratitude to those who advocated for his release.

Babalola, a 25-year-old journalist and human rights activist, was participating in the #EndBadGovernance protests when he was detained. The Take-It-Back Movement, a prominent activist group, had demanded his immediate release, highlighting his participation in the protest as his only "crime."

On Saturday, security operatives, including the Department of State Services (DSS) and Nigerian police, disrupted the protest at Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abuja. They used teargas to disperse the protesters and fired at a vehicle carrying journalists from The Premium Times and The Cable newspapers. The stadium was heavily guarded by at least six vehicles filled with masked 

The arrest and subsequent release of Ayoola Babalola have sparked discussions on the rights of journalists and activists in Nigeria, especially concerning their participation in protests against poor governance.
