Three Drug Kingpins, 16 Others Sentenced to 302 Years in Prison for Illicit Drug Trafficking

Nineteen individuals, including three drug kingpins, have been sentenced to a total of 302 years in prison for their involvement in the trafficking and dealing of various illicit drugs, including cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine, cannabis, and opioids. These convictions are part of a broader effort by Nigeria's National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) to crack down on drug-related crimes.

Among the convicts is Bolanle Dauda, a 50-year-old drug kingpin, arrested with 57.5 kilograms of cocaine while attempting to cross into Ghana. He was sentenced to 21 years in prison or a fine of N30 million. Another kingpin, Ikeh Stanley Ifeanyi, was convicted for trafficking fentanyl, a potent synthetic opioid responsible for overdose deaths worldwide, and received a 14-year sentence or a fine of N2 million.

The third kingpin, Christian Anyanwu, was sentenced to 16 years in prison for attempting to smuggle methamphetamine to Brazil. Other convicts received varying sentences, including a mandatory 25-year term for Moses Yakubu and a 30-year term for Beauty Gani.

These convictions followed a series of arrests and diligent prosecutions by the NDLEA between July 1 and 31, 2024, in several states across Nigeria. The anti-narcotics agency continues its aggressive campaign against drug cartels, demonstrating that there is no hiding place for traffickers within the country.
