Businessman Excreted 88 Wraps of Cocaine at Abuja Airport, Arrested

A 54-year-old Vietnam-bound businessman, Paul Mbadugha, has been arrested by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja. Mbadugha was apprehended after testing positive for ingesting cocaine.

In a statement issued on Sunday, NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi confirmed that Mbadugha excreted a total of 88 wraps of cocaine, weighing 1.710 kilograms, over four days under excretion observation. The suspect was intercepted on August 12, 2024, during the outward clearance of a Qatar Airways flight to Hanoi, Vietnam.

Mbadugha claimed that he was offered $2,000 by a Lagos-based businessman to smuggle the drugs to Vietnam.

In related news, NDLEA officers at Lagos Airport intercepted a shipment of "Loud," a synthetic strain of cannabis, concealed in noodles and destined for Congo. A subsequent operation led to the arrest of the sender, Nnamani Sunday Sunny. Additionally, a large consignment of Loud, imported from Canada, was seized from a suspect, Desalu Taophic Temitope, who was promised $10,000 for its delivery.

Further NDLEA operations across Nigeria led to the destruction of over 21,800 kilograms of cannabis on a 20-hectare farm in Ekiti State, the seizure of 892,400 bottles of codeine-based syrup in Rivers State, and several arrests related to tramadol and other narcotics in Kogi, Niger, and Abuja.
