Fresh Wave of Violence Hits Southeast Nigeria, Residents Flee in Fear
In Imo State, Nigeria - A devastating attack by gunmen has left eight community leaders dead in Umucheke Okwe, a community in the Onuimo Local Government Area of Imo State. The victims, including the President-General of the community, Hyginus Ohazuruike, and seven other village chiefs, were brutally murdered on Saturday evening.
According to eyewitnesses, the assailants stormed Ohazuruike's shop, where the leaders were holding a meeting, and opened fire indiscriminately. The building was then set ablaze, leaving the bodies of the victims inside.
The attack has sparked widespread panic, with many villagers fleeing the area in fear of further violence. The motives behind the attack remain unknown, and efforts to reach the police spokesperson in Imo State have been unsuccessful.
