#HARD-DRUGS: Spain-bound Cocaine Found in Businessman's Sandals at MMIA



A Spain-bound businessman, 50-year-old Francis Akajiobi, has been arrested by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Ikeja, Lagos. Akajiobi was found with 1.20 kilograms of cocaine concealed in his sandals while attempting to board a Royal Air Maroc flight to Madrid. The cocaine was discovered during a routine check by NDLEA operatives on July 25, 2024. Akajiobi claimed he was to deliver the consignment to a friend in Spain for a fee of €5,000.

Makinde Sodiq Lekan was apprehended in connection with 99 parcels of Canadian Loud, a synthetic strain of cannabis weighing 51.60 kg. The consignment arrived at the SAHCO Imports shed of Lagos airport on a Turkish Airlines flight from Canada via Istanbul.

- Ubaida Aliyu, 32, was intercepted with 573 rounds of live ammunition intended for delivery to bandits in Sokoto.
- Godwin Udochukwu, 35, was arrested with 25,000 ampoules of Pentazocine injection.
- Alkasim Mikailu, 35, was nabbed in Kano following the seizure of 37,880 ampoules of Diazepam injection along the Abuja-Kaduna highway.

Seventeen suspects were arrested, and 31,250 kilograms of cannabis were destroyed on 12.5 hectares of farmland in Oriade LGA. Among those arrested were Peter Osuya, 51, and Zebron Ode, 46. 

- Abioye Adeniyi, 39, and Rafiu Lekan, 41, were caught with 55 jumbo wraps of Ghana Loud along Badagry-Seme road.
- Samson Ifeayi Egwutouhi, 30, was arrested with 20 blocks of compressed cannabis sativa weighing 10.500 kg along the Okene-Lokoja-Abuja expressway.
- Suleiman Yahaya, 50, and Ibrahim Bello, 35, were arrested in Bauchi with 315 blocks of cannabis sativa weighing 204.750 kg.

NDLEA continued its War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) sensitization activities in various schools, worship centers, workplaces, and communities across Nigeria, educating students, commercial motorcyclists, and other groups about the dangers of drug abuse.

Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of NDLEA, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), praised the agency's officers for their relentless efforts against drug cartels and their balanced approach to reducing both drug supply and demand. He encouraged them to continue their diligent work.
