Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) recently conducted a raid in Akure, Ondo state, resulting in the arrest of over 50 suspected internet fraudsters. The raid took place in two hotels and nightclubs in the early hours of Saturday. Among those arrested was a bridegroom who was celebrating his bachelor's eve with friends in one of the popular clubs in Akure.
During the sting operation, the EFCC operatives reportedly seized numerous vehicles, laptops, high-end smartphones, and other items from the suspects. The raid in Akure comes shortly after the arrest of four suspected internet fraudsters in Abuja, the federal capital territory.
It is important to note that similar operations have been carried out by the EFCC in different parts of Nigeria.
the Ibadan Zonal Command of the EFCC arrested 36 suspected internet fraudsters in Abeokuta, Ogun State, and 100 suspects in Enugu State. These operations have led to the recovery of items such as mobile phones, laptops, and exotic cars.
The EFCC is committed to combating internet fraud and other forms of financial crimes in Nigeria. The suspects arrested in these operations will be charged in court once investigations are concluded.
