"Fed Govt's Triumph: Kaduna School Children Freed Without Ransom Payment"

Federal Government Confirms No Ransom Paid for Release of Kaduna School Children

In a press briefing held after the Federal Executive Council meeting at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, declared that no ransom was paid for the release of the 137 pupils kidnapped from Kuriga, Chikun Local Government Area, Kaduna State.

The minister emphasized the commitment of President Buhari to not negotiate with terrorists or pay ransom, underscoring the government's dedication to ensuring the safety and security of all citizens.

The abduction occurred on March 6 when terrorists on motorcycles stormed the school, seizing the pupils and sparking widespread condemnation both domestically and internationally, including from organizations such as UNICEF.

Contrary to earlier reports suggesting the rescue of 287 pupils, a statement issued by Major General Edward Buba, the Director of Defence Media Operations, clarified that 137 pupils were indeed rescued. This successful operation was a result of a collaborative effort between the military and local authorities in Zamfara State.

Addressing concerns about engaging with Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, a Kaduna-based Muslim cleric who offered to dialogue with the terrorists responsible for the abduction, Minister Idris affirmed that while constructive suggestions are welcomed, individuals must abide by the law. He assured that the government would not hesitate to reprimand anyone, including Sheikh Gumi, if their statements or actions are deemed reckless.

This development underscores the government's unwavering commitment to combatting terrorism and ensuring the safety and security of all citizens. With no ransom paid and the successful rescue of the abducted pupils, the government remains resolute in its stance against negotiating with terrorists.
