Recent Salary Increases Not Minimum Wage, Aims to Bridge Wage Gaps. - ASCSN Clarifies

The Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria (ASCSN) has provided clarity regarding the recent announcement by the federal government regarding salary increases for workers. President of the association, Mr. Tommy Okon, emphasized that the 25% and 35% salary increases are not indicative of a new minimum wage. Addressing journalists in Abuja on Wednesday, Okon, who also serves as the Vice President of the Trade Union Congress (TUC), explained that the approved salary adjustments aim to address existing wage disparities within certain ministries, departments, and agencies.

He highlighted that while various sectors have benefited from these increments, it specifically pertains to the core Federal Civil Service and does not constitute a nationwide minimum wage adjustment. Okon stressed the importance of this clarification to ensure that workers and the public understand the nature of the salary increases and their purpose in bridging wage gaps within the civil service.

The Federal Government's announcement on Tuesday outlined salary increases ranging from 25% to 35% for civil servants across six consolidated salary structures, including the Consolidated Public Service Salary Structure (CONPSS), Consolidated Research and Allied Institutions Salary Structure (CONRAISS), and others such as the Consolidated Para-military Salary Structure (CONPASS), Consolidated Intelligence Community Salary Structure (CONICCS), and Consolidated Armed Forces Salary Structure (CONAFSS).

This clarification from the ASCSN aims to dispel any misconceptions and ensure that the public accurately understands the nature of the recent salary adjustments.
