The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Ondo State has apprehended Abraham Achibong for allegedly engaging in repeated sexual abuse of his own daughter over a span of six years. This egregious case of incest and child molestation has sent shockwaves through the Ile-Oluji community and beyond.
According to a statement issued by the NSCDC's Public Relations Officer, Aidamenbor Daniel, on Friday, Achibong's arrest was part of a broader operation that also led to the apprehension of two other suspects, Ojo Oluwasola and Agu Matthew, on separate charges.
The state commandant of the NSCDC, Ibiloye Oluyemi, disclosed that the arrest unfolded after Achibong's 14-year-old daughter courageously confided in her teacher during a sensitization program on Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) vaccination at her school. She revealed the horrifying ordeal she had endured since the tender age of eight at the hands of her own father.
Achibong, a 40-year-old farmer residing in the Ile-Oluji community, has reportedly admitted to the grave accusations leveled against him. He now faces imminent prosecution on charges of rape, molestation, and incest, casting a dark shadow over his family and the entire community.
In addition to Achibong's arrest, Ojo Oluwasola and Agu Matthew were also taken into custody for their involvement in separate criminal activities.
Oluwasola, a 28-year-old resident of number 23 Oryanrugbulem, Akure, was apprehended on May 20, 2024, for allegedly attempting to steal a vehicle within the Ifeoluwa Community of Shagari village, Akure. His brazen act of theft was swiftly thwarted by vigilant community members who promptly handed him over to the authorities.
Meanwhile, Agu Matthew, described as a professional con artist, stands accused of defrauding Mr. Mba Daniel of a staggering sum totaling N5.94 million. Posing as the Protocol Officer to the Governor of Enugu State, Matthew exploited Daniel's trust by falsely promising compensation for a parcel of land acquired by a prominent figure in Enugu. He absconded with the substantial sum after concocting an elaborate scheme involving fictitious civil service payments.
Commandant Ibiloye Oluyemi reiterated the NSCDC's unyielding commitment to upholding justice and ensuring the safety of the public. He assured the community that all suspects would be subjected to thorough investigation and subsequent prosecution in accordance with the law.
As news of these arrests reverberates throughout Ondo State, residents are urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities promptly.
This distressing case of familial betrayal serves as a stark reminder of the urgent need to protect vulnerable members of society from the scourge of sexual abuse and exploitation.
