Philip Shuaib

The panel set up by Edo State Chief Judge, Justice Daniel Okungbowa, to investigate allegations of misconduct against Deputy Governor Philip Shaibu commenced proceedings on Wednesday.

The seven-member panel, led by retired Justice S. A. Omonuwa, convened following the resolution by the State House of Assembly to initiate impeachment proceedings against Shaibu.

Representatives from the House of Assembly and Shaibu himself, represented by Prof Oladoyin Awoyale (SAN), were present at the panel's inaugural session.

The impeachment process stems from reported tensions between Shaibu and Governor Godwin Obaseki, particularly after Shaibu expressed intentions to contest the Edo governorship.

A statement issued by the panel's administrative secretary, George Odidi, notified parties involved of the commencement of proceedings at the Judges Conference room, New High Court Complex, Benin City.

Parties and their legal representatives were expected to attend, with the complainant prepared to present their case.

The allegations against Shaibu and the unfolding impeachment process mark a significant development in Edo State politics, with implications for the gubernatorial landscape.

As proceedings unfold, the fate of Deputy Governor Philip Shaibu hangs in the balance, while political tensions within the state continue to simmer.

The outcome of the investigation and subsequent proceedings will have far-reaching implications for the political dynamics within Edo State.

As the panel delves into the allegations against Shaibu, all eyes remain fixed on the unfolding developments, awaiting the resolution of this contentious issue.
