Benue's Burning Mystery: Former Governor's Relative's House Torched by Hoodlums, State Clarifies Ownership"

In a recent development concerning the arson attack on a residential property in the Gboko area of Benue State, the government has issued a detailed clarification regarding the ownership of the affected house. Initial reports had suggested that the targeted property belonged to the former governor of Benue State, the late Aper Aku. However, subsequent investigations have revealed that the house in question is actually owned by a relative of the former governor.

The incident, which occurred on Monday, involved unidentified arsonists setting the residence ablaze. The situation could have escalated further if not for the timely intervention of the police, who managed to evacuate six occupants from the premises safely. Speaking to journalists in Makurdi, the state capital, Deborah Aku, the daughter of the late governor, confirmed the successful rescue operation.

In an official statement released by Olomon Lorpev, the Technical Advisor to Governor Hyacinth Alia on Media, Publicity, and Strategic Communication, the ownership of the property was clarified. According to Lorpev, the house belongs to Ityungu Aku, a relative of the former governor, and not the former governor himself.

Governor Hyacinth Alia strongly condemned the attack, describing it as "barbaric" and emphasizing the government's commitment to maintaining law and order within the state. He reiterated the administration's zero-tolerance stance towards any form of property destruction and called for swift justice to be served to the perpetrators.

Furthermore, Lorpev provided additional details regarding the location of the attacked residence, stating that it is situated in Mbayion near the former Ter Gboko Akaahan Adi’s house.
