"Lagos Crackdown: 63 Arrested for Ignoring Pedestrian Bridges and Street Trading"

Operatives of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps have apprehended 63 individuals across various locations in the state for disregarding pedestrian bridges and engaging in street trading.

According to Tokunbo Wahab, the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, the arrests were made following reports of pedestrians crossing highways without using designated pedestrian bridges. The offenders were also found involved in street trading activities.

Specifically, 13 persons were nabbed for crossing the highway without utilizing the pedestrian bridge at the Oshodi Oke area. This enforcement action underscores the Lagos State Government's commitment to ensuring pedestrian safety and reducing road accidents.

In February, the Lagos State Government reiterated its call for residents to utilize pedestrian bridges, emphasizing that crossing major highways poses risks and is considered a punishable offense. Offenders caught violating this directive will face prosecution under the provisions of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Protection Law 2017.

The arrested individuals have been charged to court for prosecution in accordance with the law. The locations where the arrests were made include Oshodi Oke, Ile Epo, Ikoyi, Victoria Island, and Ajah, among others. This enforcement effort aims to promote compliance with traffic regulations and enhance safety on Lagos roads.
