Labour Party Crisis: Lagos Chapter Demands Resignation of National Chairman Julius Abure

In a significant development within the Labour Party (LP), the Lagos State chapter has issued a compelling call for the resignation of the party's National Chairman, Julius Abure. The demand comes amidst a growing crisis surrounding Abure's leadership, with allegations of corruption and integrity breaches casting a shadow over the party's reputation.

Rasheed Bamishe, the chairman of the LP in Lagos State, made the unequivocal call for Abure's resignation at the party's secretariat in Lagos on Saturday. Bamishe, speaking on behalf of the chapter, highlighted the urgent need for Abure to prioritize the party's inter

ests over personal ambitions. He emphasized that Abure's continued tenure as National Chairman would only further damage the Labour Party's integrity and credibility.

Bamishe stressed the importance of preventing Abure from proceeding with his proposed National Convention scheduled for March 27, 2024. Instead, he advocated for the appointment of a Caretaker National Chairman to oversee the organization of State Congresses before convening any national-level events. This strategic move aims to ensure a transparent and inclusive process within the party's leadership structure.

The call for Abure's resignation stems from a series of allegations leveled against him, including dishonesty, forgery, and the fabrication of signatures. These accusations have not only brought public shame and embarrassment to the Labour Party but have also raised serious questions about Abure's suitability to lead the organization.

Bamishe reiterated that while Abure is entitled to pursue his political endeavors, the Labour Party cannot function as a one-man show. He emphasized the democratic principles upon which the party was founded and called for a collective effort to uphold these values.

Furthermore, Bamishe pointed out the need for a thorough investigation into the allegations of fraud against Abure. He highlighted the importance of accountability and transparency within the party's leadership ranks, stressing that any wrongdoing must be addressed swiftly and decisively.

Bamishe urged all stakeholders, including the National Working Committee, members of the party's Board of Trustees, and relevant authorities, to unite in seeking legitimate avenues, including litigation if necessary, to ensure Abure's removal from office. By doing so, the Labour Party can begin the process of restoring its credibility, dignity, and integrity, thereby reaffirming its commitment to serving the interests of millions of Nigerians.
