 Edo PDP Chairman Tony Aziegbemi has Regains Freedom After 11-Day Abduction


In a remarkable turn of events, Tony Aziegbemi, the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State, has been liberated from his captors after enduring 11 days in captivity. The harrowing ordeal began on March 15, 2024, when armed assailants abducted Aziegbemi around 11 pm at the entrance to his residence, following a meeting with Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki.


During his abduction, the perpetrators demanded a staggering ransom of N500 million for his safe release, plunging his loved ones and the political community into a state of anxiety and uncertainty.


The jubilant news of Aziegbemi's release was confirmed by Senator Odion Ugbesia, who joyfully shared, "Yes, I just spoke to him, it is true. To God be the glory," expressing immense relief and gratitude at the turn of events.


A statement issued by Clem Aziegbemi, on behalf of the Aziegbemi family, conveyed profound appreciation to the public for their unwavering support and solidarity throughout the distressing episode. "As a member of the Aziegbemi family, we say thank you all for your great show of love and solidarity with us all through the period of the unfortunate and ugly abduction of our beloved son, brother, cousin, and leader, Dr. Tony Aziegbemi for his unhurt release. Thank you, all… We are most grateful for all your valuable contributions through prayers and steadfastness," expressed Clem Aziegbemi.


The news of Aziegbemi's release brings relief to his family, friends, and political associates, marking the end of a tumultuous chapter in his life and reinstating hope for a brighter future ahead.
