The Delta State Police Command has made significant strides in curbing criminal activities by apprehending a two-man syndicate responsible for stealing phones from tricycle passengers in Asaba, the state capital. SP. Edafe Bright, the Police Public Relations Officer, revealed this development in a comprehensive statement released on Thursday.
According to the statement, the suspects, identified as Collins Akpinoba (27) and David Paulson (38), were arrested following a report lodged by a victim named Ezeugwu Akanso. Akanso reported the theft of his phone during a trip from Konwea Plaza to Okpanam Road in Asaba.
Providing further details, the statement outlined that Akanso boarded a commercial tricycle with registration number GWK 758 VC, bearing the Delta State code number 12335B, at Konwea Plaza situated on Nnebisi Road, Asaba. Upon realizing the absence of his phone, he promptly raised an alarm, alerting nearby individuals who joined forces to apprehend the suspects.
The collaborative effort led to the successful capture of Collins Akpinoba and David Paulson, who were promptly handed over to the police. Preliminary investigations conducted by law enforcement revealed that the two suspects operated in tandem, conspiring to rob unsuspecting passengers. Additionally, some victims have positively identified them, corroborating their involvement in similar criminal activities.
In a separate development, the Anti-Crime patrol team of the Agbor Division made a significant seizure during a routine stop-and-search operation on March 27. The team recovered a Beretta pistol from a 25-year-old native of Ekuku-Agbor named John Chikwuji, further underscoring the commitment of law enforcement agencies to maintain peace and security in the region.
