Nigerian Army Rescues 21 Kidnap Victims in Joint Operation Across Kwara, Kogi

Troops of the Nigerian Army’s 2 Division/Sector 3, Operation FANSAN YAMA, have rescued 21 kidnapped victims during a coordinated clearance operation spanning Kwara and Kogi States.

According to a statement by Lieutenant Colonel Polycarp Okoye, Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations for 2 Division, the rescue followed a series of joint offensives conducted by troops of the 12 Brigade Lokoja and 22 Armoured Brigade Ilorin on October 17, 2025.

The victims — comprising 14 men, five women, one infant, and four Chinese nationals — were reportedly abducted from various locations across both states. The Army said the kidnappers were forced to release their captives following intensified pressure from ground and aerial assaults.

The General Officer Commanding (GOC), 2 Division, Maj.-Gen. C. R. Nnebeife, who also doubles as the Commander of Sector 3, Operation FANSAN YAMA, personally supervised the operation. He ensured the rescued victims received first aid, relief materials, and medical attention at a military facility.

Nnebeife sympathized with the victims, reaffirming the Army’s commitment to sustaining the ongoing onslaught against bandits and criminal elements across its Area of Responsibility (AOR).

“There will be no hiding place for criminals. Our troops will continue to pursue them relentlessly until peace and stability are restored,” he vowed.

The Army said most of the rescued victims, who were weak and traumatized, are responding well to treatment and will be reunited with their families after full recovery.

Maj.-Gen. Nnebeife also commended the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) for its consistent air support and lauded the synergy among security agencies combating insecurity in the region. He further directed troops to sustain the operational momentum across Kwara, Kogi, and other adjoining states under 2 Division’s command.
