402 Special Forces Commander Visits Troops After Boko Haram Ambush, Commends Bravery and Morale

The Commander of 402 Special Forces Brigade, Brigadier General Mohammed Bako Shehu, has conducted an operational visit to the 198 Special Forces Battalion under Sector 2, Joint Task Force (North East) Operation HADIN KAI, following a recent Boko Haram ambush on troops in Yobe State.

Upon arrival in Damaturu, Brig. Gen. Shehu paid a courtesy call on the Acting Commander, Sector 2, Brigadier General Beyedi Martins, before both officers proceeded to 198 Special Forces Battalion, Katarko, for an on-the-ground assessment and interaction with troops.

The visit followed the October 17 ambush by Boko Haram Terrorists (BHT), which resulted in the loss of personnel and equipment. During his address, Brig. Gen. Shehu commiserated with the battalion over the incident and joined officers and soldiers in offering prayers for the repose of the fallen heroes.

Reinforcing the troops’ morale, the Commander urged them to remain resolute, aggressive, and relentless in their offensive operations against insurgents. He also provided strategic guidance on operational tactics, including staggered offensive maneuvers designed to improve battlefield coordination and effectiveness.

Brig. Gen. Shehu also welcomed newly deployed soldiers to the theatre, emphasizing the importance of continuous training and rehearsals to sustain combat readiness. He further educated troops on proper administrative procedures for accessing Special Forces allowances after completing the SF course.

As part of his morale-boosting efforts, the Commander visited wounded-in-action (WIA) personnel at the Yobe State Teaching Hospital, where he offered words of encouragement and presented them with tokens of support.

The visit was conducted smoothly, with troops maintaining heightened vigilance and operational alertness. According to the Brigade, the general security situation within the area of responsibility remains calm.
