WATCH!!! Troops Ambush Insurgents in Kainji Lake National Park, Recover Weapons

Nigerian troops have scored a major victory against insurgents in Niger State after staging a successful ambush in the Zugurma sector of Kainji Lake National Park, military authorities confirmed on Thursday.

The operation, codenamed Operation Park Strike V, was carried out by soldiers of the 22 Armoured Brigade in collaboration with Park Rangers, following credible intelligence on insurgent movements.

According to Capt. Stephen Nwankwo, Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, the troops intercepted the insurgents around 1:15 a.m. at Tungan Talle crossing, engaging them in a fierce gun battle.

The soldiers recovered three AK-47 rifles and four motorcycles, which the insurgents had used to navigate the park’s rugged terrain.

One Park Ranger sustained gunshot wounds during the encounter but has since been stabilised after receiving urgent medical care.

Commander of the 22 Armoured Brigade, Brigadier-General Ezra Barkins, praised the bravery of his troops, urging them to sustain the offensive. Speaking from the Step-Up Headquarters at Wawa Cantonment, he said the military would not relent until insurgents were fully dislodged from the national park.

Kainji Lake National Park — one of Nigeria’s largest ecological reserves — has in recent years been exploited by armed groups as a hideout, complicating security operations in Niger State. Thursday’s ambush marks a significant boost to ongoing efforts to reclaim the area.
