Taye Currency Trends As Ladoja Becomes 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland

Fuji music star, Taye Currency, became the talk of social media on Friday after his electrifying performance at the coronation of Senator Rashidi Ladoja as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland.

The historic ceremony, held at Mapo Hall in Ibadan, drew a distinguished crowd, including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, state governors, former governors, and prominent traditional rulers. Amid the pomp and cultural splendour of the day, Taye Currency’s Fuji rendition captivated dignitaries and set online conversations buzzing, propelling him into the top trends on X (formerly Twitter).

Born Taiwo Akande Adebisi, Taye Currency is widely celebrated as one of Ibadan’s cultural icons. He began his music journey at 17, co-founding the “Currency Band” with his late twin brother and manager, Rahmon Akilapa.

Over the years, he has honed a unique Fuji style that fuses traditional Yoruba rhythms with modern influences, appealing to both older and younger audiences. Mentored by Fuji legend Alhaji Wasiu Alabi Pasuma, Taye Currency rose to national prominence in 2008 with the release of his debut album, Millennium.

Today, his works have attracted millions of streams and downloads on digital platforms, cementing his place as a household name in Nigerian music.

Friday’s performance at the Olubadan coronation further underscored his enduring influence — bridging Ibadan’s rich cultural heritage with the vibrancy of contemporary Fuji music.
