Human rights activist Omoyele Sowore on Friday released an audio recording on his social media page, alleging it captures Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, threatening officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) during the 2016 elections.
In the recording, a voice said to be Wike’s is heard issuing death threats to INEC personnel whom he allegedly bribed to influence the polls. Sowore claimed the clip proves the minister’s involvement in electoral manipulation and political violence during his tenure as Rivers State governor.
“The tape reveal Wike threatening to kill INEC officials he bribed to rig the 2016 election for him,” Sowore wrote while sharing the audio, describing the minister as a “dedicated criminal” with a record of violence and corruption.
Sowore also alleged that Wike has, in the past, threatened him with assassination on behalf of President Bola Tinubu, accusing the minister of using intimidation as a political tool.
As of press time, neither Wike nor INEC has issued an official response to the tape. Independent verification of the recording’s authenticity has not yet been established.
