    Panic erupted as fire engulfed the United Bank for Africa (UBA) branch on Lagos Island, forcing some employees to jump from the upper floors in a desperate attempt to escape.

The cause of the blaze is yet to be determined, but videos circulating on social media show bank staff climbing through windows and leaping down from the storey building as thick smoke billowed from the premises.

Emergency responders had not issued an official statement as of press time, though efforts to contain the fire were ongoing. Eyewitnesses reported chaotic scenes as passersby attempted to assist trapped workers while awaiting the arrival of fire service personnel.
