The Lagos State Government has announced its full readiness to host the forthcoming international boat race, assuring participants and residents of maximum safety across the waterways.
Speaking on Friday, the General Manager of the Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA), Emmanuel Oluwadamilola, said Lagos had invested significantly in water safety infrastructure over the years, positioning it as the safest state for water transportation in Nigeria.
He explained that facilities across the state had been consistently upgraded, while a central control room equipped with advanced monitoring technology now provides real-time surveillance of activities on the waterways.
To strengthen security, Oluwadamilola noted that patrol boats have been deployed, with the Marine Police and the Nigerian Navy offering additional support to ensure effective monitoring and rapid response.
He added that the government had also undertaken shoreline cleaning, provided dedicated security boats, and designated safe docking zones for vessels participating in the competition.
“This race is a milestone for Lagos, showcasing the state’s capacity to host world-class water sport events,” he said. “Our waterways are secure, infrastructure is in place, and this is the perfect time to demonstrate Lagos’ readiness to the international community.”
