The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has cautioned former Anambra State governor and Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, against what it described as “reactionary commentary” aimed at scoring social media relevance.
In a statement issued by its publicity secretary, Mogaji Seye Oladejo, on Saturday, the party faulted Obi’s criticism of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s recent private vacation, which he linked to Nigeria’s security challenges.
Oladejo said the former presidential candidate had developed a reputation for offering soundbites instead of substance, insisting that governance cannot be trivialised into “sermons and complaints.”
According to the statement, “Nigeria needs constructive opposition, not perpetual criticism. President Tinubu remains in constant communication with his security and intelligence teams, even while on a short break. Effective leadership is not diminished by rest, and Mr Obi knows this.”
The Lagos APC further argued that national challenges require thoughtful policy engagement and credible alternatives, not what it called “political theatre.”
“Obi must learn that leadership involves discretion—knowing when to speak and when silence is more responsible,” Oladejo said, adding that the administration remains focused on rebuilding the economy, strengthening security, and restoring investor confidence.
The party urged Obi to present concrete policy proposals if he seeks to be relevant in future political contests, warning that constant agitation risks damaging his public perception.
