EXCLUSIVE: Emir of Lafiagi Warns Journalists Against Reporting Terrorist Attacks in Kwara North

The Emir of Lafiagi, in Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State, has reportedly cautioned journalists against continued coverage of terrorist and bandit attacks in Kwara North, warning that such reports “embarrass” Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq and his administration.

A source within the emirate, who spoke to press on condition of anonymity, disclosed that the monarch summoned journalists to his palace on Sunday. During the meeting, he allegedly instructed them to refrain from further publishing stories on insecurity in the region.

According to the source, the emir expressed displeasure over what he described as “negative reporting,” stressing that constant media coverage of killings, kidnappings, and attacks could tarnish the image of both the state and its governor.

Kwara North, particularly Edu and Patigi LGAs, has in recent years been plagued by recurring incidents of banditry, kidnappings, and violent attacks on farming communities. Locals have repeatedly raised alarm over rising insecurity, with several calling for stronger government intervention.

However, attempts to silence media coverage, analysts warn, could further worsen the situation by limiting public awareness and accountability. As of press time, neither the Kwara State Government nor the Emir’s palace has issued an official statement on the matter.
